Environmental issues to be noted during anti-corrosion construction of storage tanks
2026-07-28 09:17With the continuous development of modern industry, China's crude oil storage tank related industries have developed rapidly, especially large-scale crude oil storage tanks have been widely used. How to effectively take measures to ensure the safety of crude oil reserves and control the corrosion of storage tanks is of utmost importance. The anti-corrosion coating can isolate the metal parts of the storage tank from the corrosive medium, which is the defense line for the anti-corrosion of the storage tank and can effectively prevent the tank from being corroded. So the construction quality of coatings becomes crucial, directly related to the control effect of corrosive media. Referring to the relevant specifications for tank corrosion prevention, the following briefly summarizes several environmental issues that should be paid attention to during the coating construction process of crude oil storage tanks, as well as the supporting system of tank corrosion coatings.
(1) Fence protection: Generally speaking, the anti-corrosion work of crude oil storage tanks is mostly carried out outdoors, so the wind and sand will be relatively strong. Therefore, fences should be set up around the tank, and the coating operation should be located at the upwind port and sandblasting operation at the downwind port to reduce the impact of wind and sand. The coating area and sandblasting operation should be staggered to avoid the sandblasting operation affecting the quality of the coating.
(2) Ventilation is required for work inside the tank: When carrying out construction work inside the tank, ventilation should be maintained. If ventilation is poor, forced ventilation measures should be taken.
(3) Temperature control: During painting operations, the surface temperature of the steel should be 3 ℃ higher than the dew point temperature on site, and should not exceed 50 ℃. Usually, the temperature of steel plates used for outdoor work in summer can exceed 50 ℃. If the surface temperature of the steel is too high, bubbles will appear in the paint film, leading to a decrease in adhesion. If the temperature is too low, conventional coatings are prone to freeze the paint film and are not easy to cure.
(4) The impact of humidity: Construction work shall not be carried out when the air humidity is greater than 85% or in weather conditions such as rain, snow, or heavy fog. When painting, there should be no dewdrops on the surface of the steel.
